Take a Ride Down History Lane at the Florida Railroad Museum
Here is a museum that you actually get to ride the exhibits! Sound like fun? I think kids of all ages and parents, and grandparents will agree, after all who doesn’t like train rides? The Florida Railroad Museum is open Wednesday through Sunday but actual diesel train excursions occur on the weekends typically departing at 11 AM and 2PM. It will take a little time to get there from Siesta Key (appx 45 minutes, head east off Siesta Key and take I-75 North to exit 229 in Parrish.) but is well worth the trip!

A visit to Mixon Fruit Farms, a working citrus farm, is a fun off the beach activity for the whole family located close to Siesta Key in nearby Bradenton where you can take a tram (Mixon’s Orange Blossom Express) and discover life in the grove while experiencing Florida’s historic citrus industry. The tram stops at Wildlife Inc. Rescue, the Farm’s wildlife refuge of rescued birds, animals and reptiles. Treat yourself for lunch at the Groveside Cafe and enjoy fresh Florida squeezed orange juice, grapefruit juice and more!
